Can a Mustache Make You Look Skinny

Can a Mustache Actually Make You Look Skinny?

In short, yes. Yes it can. If you are one of the thousands of men who can, in fact, sprout a brier patch from your face, then you are already on your way to becoming a more visually interesting person. Having a sculpted bit of facial hair provides your face with some much-needed symmetry and can help make you look slimmer even before you hit the gym. Which, of course, you are already going for that weight loss or bulking journey, right?

How Does it Work?

In case you were wondering how this miraculous process involving man’s real best friend works, Mark L. Held, a clinical psychologist who probably owns at least two lab coats, reports that changing facial hair can change your entire persona. That offers the proud bearer of the facial fur coat a change of self-perspective for the positive. As a result of your new-found confidence, you are more likely to maintain healthy behaviors which lead to weight loss. Of course the people in your day-to-day life may react differently to your new look. If you receive positive feedback then that serves to further encourage your healthier behavior. While some facial hair options provide you with a slimmer look there are those which do the opposite. Those are the styles to be avoided.

Factors to Consider

So, of the varying options for your face-topiary, how do you know which one will work for you? Facial hair is as personalized as the features of your face. It is important to keep in mind how thick you can grow your chin neighbor and its color; the shape of your jaw, chin, and face; and the size and shape of nose, mouth, and lips. You also have to consider if you have the cheekbones of Christopher Lee and what sort of head hair you have to complement the style you choose. For the most part, men who deal with a large, round face should consider the following options. 1. Sideburns. Grow them. Stephen Knoll, a salon owner in New York who has worked with Richard Gere and other celebrities, claims that sideburns can help slim the face. His advice is to start by growing sideburns to your ear and then experiment with going lower than that. Of course, the secret is to keep them trimmed and maintained, unless you want to look like Tom Hanks from the movie Cast Away.

Can a Mustache Make You Look Skinny?2. Consider a goatee. Growing hair on your chin can add a visual aspect which makes your face look longer, according to Allan D. Peterkin, MD, a Toronto psychiatrist and author of One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair. The man literally wrote the book on beards, so you should probably take his word for it.

Can a Mustache Make You Look Skinny?3. Try a short beard. Overweight men with dark hair are the ideal candidates for this one really. This makes the chin and jaw look more defined and can hide the second chin that you have been growing for, uh, science. You can visit this page to read about the most effective weight loss pill.

4. Test it out. There are websites which allow you to upload your photo and let you insert hypothetical facial hair to see how it looks before you dedicate your life to sprouting the perfect goatee.

DON’Ts

Can a Mustache Make You Look Skinny?1. Make it small. Trying to make a large face look smaller with a small facial accessory like a wispy mustache only does the opposite.

Can a Mustache Make You Look Skinny?2. Go crazy. Although the names of some facial hair styles alone are intriguing, resist the urge to overdo it with something crazy for novelty’s sake. “While all men are different, most overweight men should avoid extremes,” Knoll offers. Try to keep it simple in order to draw the eye away from your less-favorable attributes and towards your new nose neighbor.

Can a Mustache Make You Look Skinny?3. Do stubble. The stubble-only style works primarily for guys with narrow faces. If that described you, you probably would not be reading this. So don’t do it.

Making a decision about what facial hair style is right for you is not one to be taken lightly. Your fuzzy companion should make you feel confident, and your new-found positive image will help you maintain the healthy behaviors that you start. With the right style you can help make yourself look trimmer, more masculine, and more attractive. And isn’t that what you really want?

That preference comes in handy – especially since he is a content writer.  Right now, he is working with Trim Nutrition to spread the word about weight loss injections.  While the thought of using vitamin injections for weight loss sounds much simpler than hitting the gym on a regular basis, he much prefers the idea of sprouting some facial fuzz to hide those extra pounds.

Comments

  1. I have a rounder, heart-shaped face, and it’s pretty difficult to find a mustache that doesn’t make me look totally weird.

I feel like guys with thinner faces can pretty grow whatever kind of mustache they want and pull it off fine, but for the rounder gentleman, it’s more of a challenge.

Still, like with any mustache, a little trimming and styling wax goes a long way. Anyway, good article. Keep up the good work 🙂
