President Theodore Roosevelt, an advocate for manhood and manliness throughout his entire life, once said, “We need the iron qualities that go with true manhood. We need the positive virtues of resolution, of courage, of indomitable will, of power to do without shrinking the rough work that must always be done.” Manliness is more than mere anatomy, it is a collection of virtues that are not limited to a gender. With that, I present 3 places in the U.S. where opportunities abound to develop such qualities and virtues.
In no particular order…
Founded as a mining town in 1858, Denver is now known the 23rd most populous city in the United States, nestled snugly between the Rocky Mountains to the west and the High Plains to the east. It’s known for pleasant summers and snowy winters. Many residents take great pleasure in skiing, hiking, climbing, kayaking, hunting, fishing, canoeing, and many more outdoor sports. Investing in fishing boats will be great idea if you will be moving here and you’re also into fishing. If you’re into hunting, you may purchase a hunting rifle and the corresponding ammo from a local gun shop or an online gun store and get the necessary hunting permits.
It’s also a city of industry and activity, from the early miners trying to carve a living out of the hills to its more modern residents. Denver has been birthplace to major businesses, such as Village Inn, Big O Tires, The Shane Company, Russell Stover Candies, Frontier Airlines, and The Samsonite Corp.
Denver can bring all sorts of challenges, from living an active outdoor lifestyle to finding opportunity for industry and hard work. Add in appreciation for abundant natural beauty, and Denver becomes an excellent home for someone trying to espouse the virtues of manliness.
There are few activities that envelop the virtues of resolution, courage, and willpower more than sports, and a sports fan can’t do much better than Jacksonville, Florida. Not only do the Jacksonville Jaguars make their home there, but Superbowl XXXIX was held in Jacksonville in 2005. The Jaguars are joined by such minor league teams as the current Arena Football League champions, the Jacksonville Sharks, the 2012 American Basketball Association champions, the Jacksonville Giants, the semi-pro rugby team, the Jacksonville Axemen, and the Double-A baseball team, the Jacksonville Suns.
As if that weren’t enough, the PGA tour headquarters are just a few miles away in Ponte Vedra Beach, and college sports fans can get more than their fill of action all year round.
For those with drive and willpower, outside the arena of sports, Jacksonville is an excellent and cost-effective place to reside. In 2011 BizCosts.com named Jacksonville the third least expensive city to launch corporate headquarters and In 2006, it was named one of the top 5 “up and coming” cities in America by Good Morning America.
This wealth of adrenaline, competition, and excellence make Jacksonville a perfect place to call home for the manly at heart.
Austin comes in as the 11th largest city in the United States, and is the capital of the state of Texas. What began as a pioneer and cattle town has grown to a booming metropolis and abounds with business, cultural, and educational opportunities.
Austin promotes itself as “The Live Music Capital of the World”, and with good reason. The long running PBS concert series “Austin City Limits” has showcased such performers as Joan Baez, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, John Denver, the Foo Fighters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Willie Nelson (who performed at the first show in 1975), Dolly Parton and many other legendary musicians.
Austin’s unofficial motto states, “Keep Austin Weird,” which bolsters and promotes local independent businesses and Austin’s open-minded, accepting atmosphere. It was named the No. 2 Best Big City in “Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine in 2006, the “Greenest City in America” by MSN, and Travel & Leisure Magazine ranked Austin No. 1 on the list of cities with the best people.
If you’re looking for a place where hard work, determination, and industry go hand in hand with acceptance, kindness, and a welcoming environment, you can’t do much better than Austin.
If you’re planning to move to any of these cities, you may need to sell your current home first. Real estate websites like https://www.housebuyersofamerica.com/virginia may be able to help sell your home quickly.
