No matter where you are in the world, the military uniform has always been a well-known, and respected form of dress. The people who wear uniforms and army rank insignia pins are seen as noted individuals that worked hard to be able to gain the opportunity to do so with pride. Camouflage has crossed over into the fashion world and has no longer been seen as solely for soldiers for quite a while now. Although the uniforms of our soldiers are highly recognized, there is one that gains a form recognition that the others don’t; The Army Fatigue. Any male that participates in fashion has worn Camo at one time or another.
The presence of camouflage in fashion has greatly increased, as well as become very immersed into personal style. Initially, there were the traditional cargo pants and/or jacket that was worn as separates, but style evolution occurred. Cargo pants transitioned into more distinguished trousers and the jackets became more tailored. There are no boundaries when it comes to what this print can and can not be incorporated in. The transition went from pants and jackets, to undergarments, shoes and accessories (I.e. gloves, pocket squares, scarves). All forms of apparel have been created with camouflage, but it doesn’t end there. Briefcases and backpacks have donned camouflage print as well.
Once upon a time, a man would display his sense of style by wearing a traditional print while everyone else wore neutrals, this showed that he dabbled in fashion and wasn’t your ordinary Joe. Today, Camo is the new classic. The print is so versatile because of the colors incorporated in it; it can almost be treated as a neutral. The versatility of camouflage, like any great print, allows it to be dressed up or down. Incorporating the right pieces is what’s most important. As always, fit matters, this will determine the direction of your look and the form in which you choose to wear your camouflage. If you want to wear the traditional cargo pants then you can always do sneakers or custom fitted mens boots, even chukkas, but a regular cut pair of camo pants allows you to up the ante. Your range of style options tend to broaden.
With camo print trousers you must treat it as you would any other pants, assure you have the right shoes, socks, belt, and even cuff it. There is no necessary change in your style of dress that must occur, it’s just an exploration of print that’s happening to further accentuate your sense of style. If you’re a rugged kind of guy wear them rugged, if you prefer a more polished look slip on a pair of camouflage driving shoes. It’s really very simple.
For those who aren’t as eager to wear camouflage in garments such as a blazer, you can always opt for a tie or a pocket square. Some apparel is even lined in camouflage which is always fun too because you’re wearing it without actually wearing it. There is also the option to carry camo printed baggage instead of wearing the print itself. This still shows that enjoy army fatigue, but you’re doing it your way. Style is all about making fashion work for you, and camouflage can surely work for you if you want it to.
