So, how do you make the right gift decision? Here we present the do’s and don’ts of finding your lady a gift.
DON’T guess. If you don’t know what you should buy, then you’re either not so in touch with your emotional side or you don’t know your lady well enough. Either way, that’s ok. Just get help. Don’t be a hero in this situation with all this risk on the table. When in doubt, call for reinforcements.
DO ask her parents. Her parents have known her forever (that’s how it works). Call them and ask them straight up what she wants or would like. It’s likely that she’s said something to them about what she’s looking forward to this year. If they don’t have an answer, then ask them what they think would be a good gift. This will at least give you some clues and also put you in their good graces for getting their feedback.
DON’T wait until the last minute. You don’t even know what you’re getting her yet so make sure whatever it is you’re going to buy is still in stock when you get around to buying it. Start early, finish strong. Don’t be that guy that says “I was going to, but…”
DO ask her friends. For most of us, this is the easiest and best way to go. Her friends shop with her and know her style. Her friends will know much better than you what she likes and dislikes. They will also give you good advice on whether or not your gift is “her” or not. Don’t ignore this information. Her friends want what’s best for her and will therefore help you.
DON’T ask her. This will make you seem insensitive, aloof, distant, and will open up all sorts of nightmarish conversations with your lady like “do you even know who I am?” She wants you to do the work to make her feel special. Unless you know she will be cool if you ask her, don’t do it.
DO make it thoughtful. There’s nothing like putting in a little effort to instantly become the greatest guy in the world. Homemade card? A personal Haiku? A self-care gift box from https://unboxme.com/collections/thinking-of-you ? What can you do that’s a little different this time around? Let’s be honest, whatever you buy her will probably be replaced or discarded at some point in the future, but she’ll never forget the way you made her feel. Do something to show her how much you think about her and reap the rewards.
