Are you planning to purchase hot tubs? Do you know the do’s and dont’s of having a hot tub? Owning a hot tub is a great way of getting friends and family together and enjoying some quality time with those you love. However, tensions can run high when you, or your guests, don’t follow some basic rules of hot tub etiquette.
Committing a hot tub faux pas could find you banished from hot tub parties forever, or you end up sitting alone in your own tub because no one wants to share it with you.
To make sure you don’t become a hot tub party outcast here are the do’s and don’ts of hot tub etiquette.
Cleanliness comes first
That goes for your body and your bathing suit! Although a hot tub rather looks like a large, outdoor bath, it isn’t, and there aren’t many people who would appreciate you using it like one.
Everyone should have showered before they get in the tub and be wearing a clean bathing suit. Although beware of deodorants, body lotions, and clothing detergents because they can all make the water go cloudy and give the filters a hard time.
You may also want to learn the proper way to clean your siding to lengthen its life and allow it to provide better protection to your home.
It’s not a pool
This one seems quite obvious but you’d be surprised at the amount of people that jump or dive into hot tubs. Not only do they risk hurting themselves in what is actually quite shallow water, but they also risk hurting the people who are already in the tub.
Without being a spoil sport, politely insist that all hot tub users enter the tub safely using the steps. You might also want to keep a towel handy to prevent slippery steps causing accidents or trips.
Safety first!
You might think it’s cute that your dog wants to join you but your guests and your water filter certainly won’t appreciate the addition of a hairy dog in the tub. It’s not only dangerous for your pets to take a dip with you but you really won’t be doing your tub any favours.
Food and parties go hand in hand but think carefully about the type of food you’re serving if you’re going to have a hot tub party. You can get floating trays for all kinds of snacks but there are certain things you might want to keep away from the hot tub.
After all, would you want to catch sight of a hot dog floating by when you’re trying to enjoy a relaxing soak?
Hot tubs are a fantastic way of entertaining as well as relaxing and following a few simple rules will make sure the spa experience is fun for everyone. Keeping pets, food, and other foreign bodies out of the tub will make sure it stays clean and hygienic.
It also means your hot tub company won’t get angry when they come to do a spa service or hot tub repairs and they discover the filter is clogged with dog hair, crisps, and biscuit crumbs!

Good tips! I'd also add that you should be careful about drinking and hot tub bathing. The numbing effects of alcohol make it harder to tell when you're overheating and make it easier to fall asleep and potentially drown.
Good point! Besides, drinking and drowning is illegal! 🙂
