Top Tips For Travelling AloneKeep Yourself Entertained

Although you are on a holiday and in a strange new world you will still occasionally find yourself bored unless you stay at a resort with entertainment. Since you won’t have a companion to talk to, you need to find something to help with your boredom! Make sure you have a great book to carry around with you to keep you busy when things slow down. A book is a godsend when you are on a bus, on the beach or in a cafe. Just remember to pack a few with you for chances of finding one in your own language, depending where you are, can sometimes be very difficult. Stay Confident And Trust Yourself

Top Tips For Travelling Alone

Don’t whip out expensive electronics in public.

Safety is very important when you are travelling alone and thus it is important that you look confident in all situations. Don’t make the usual tourist mistake of looking ‘too touristy’. That being said, get a feel for the place your in before you start pulling out all your expensive electronic devices or pulling currency from your money belt. Being street smart goes a long way. Tip: Transfer a small amount of money from your belt into your front pocket to get you through the day before you set out. If you find yourself running low and out and about, choose to do the “exchange” in a public bathroom.

It is also important that you trust your own ability to survive.  If you are confident in talking to new people then do it, but don’t force yourself into situations that make you feel uncomfortable. Have fun, be cool but remain in control of the situations you find yourself in.

Look Into New Options

As a single traveler you should also consider different ways to get from point A to point B. To ensure safety you might want to consider renting a car for your journey. This can make one feel safer than travelling on the public transport systems where a lonely traveler might attract unwanted attention. Look at Transfercar website to find out some cheap alternatives to renting a car.

You should also consider changing the place where you sleep more often. Single travelers are often welcomed by many small B&B’s and home let systems, which can both provide you with a great place to sleep and improve your sense of security while at the same time expose you to the local flavor.

Be prepared!

These options are great even if you spend one night in one place and change for the next night. After all you are free to do as you wish since you’re travelling alone. Independent Traveller has some great tips on how you can prevent yourself from having to pay extra at hotels as a single traveler. Tip: When charging your cell phone be sure to wrap your charger cord around the handle of your suitcase or strap of your backpack before plugging it in. This will prevent you from leaving the cord behind. That being said, outlets are different all over the world so be sure to bring a plug converter with different attachments.

If you are seriously considering venturing out on a solo trip make sure that you have done your research on the place you are going to. Don’t take any unnecessary risks and keep your closest consulate information near by for any emergencies. Tip: Scan a copy of your passport and keep a digital version of it in your email or dropbox, just in case!

Happy travels!

  1. I’ve found when I was traveling that the best tip is to keep an open mind and be open to new experiences. I met many people who would travel alone and wouldn’t meet new people or try activities with other solo travelers. Makes for a very lonely time.
